A notary public sees to it that any life altering document (like a prenuptial agreement, will, or power of attorney) is signed by the appropriate person(s). They check and confirm each person’s identity with a driver’s license or other government-issued ID. They are also a physical witness to the signing, as well as sign and stamp (or seal) the document themselves to say that they were an impartial observer at the signing of the document.
